Illness Policy 

ILLNESS:

 

If your cild is showing symptoms of illness, it is best for his/her health and the health of the other children that you keep your child at home. If your child requires medication while at the center, you will be required to fill out a "Medication Release Form."  A child that is showing uncomfortable signs of a cold, flu, or lethargic symptoms and is unable to participate in classroom activities will be sent home. Parents must make arrangements to have the sick child picked up from the center within 1 hour of being notified. 

 

Guidelines for sending a sick child home from the center are as follows:

 

FEVER:

  • Infants younger than 4 months: 100*F 
  • Children 4 - 24 months:101*F
  • Children older than 24 months: 102*F

 

Children sent home with fevers not related to teething or immunization shots will be required to stay home at least one full business day after the fever has dissipated on its own, without the aid of medication. 

 

DIARRHEA:

 

Infants and children with stools that are loose or have excessive water and not contained in the diaper area, or use of toilet, will be sent home immediately. The child will not be able to return to the center for at least one full business day after the last incident. Infants and children with stools that are loose and contained in the diaper area or use of toilet and have a fever will be sent home immediately. The child will not be able to return to the center for at least one full business day after the last incident. In some cases, a doctor's note must accompany the child upon returing to childcare. 

 

STREPTOCOCCAL:

 

Infants and children diagnosed with this illness will be excluded from the center for at least one full business day after treatment has been initiated and until the child has been without a fever for at least one full business day. A doctor's note must accompany the child upon returning to childcare. 

 

VOMITING: 

 

Infants and children will be sent home immediately. The child will be excluded from the center for at least one full business day after the last recorded incident. 

 

PINK EYE: 

 

Infants and children will be sent home immediately. Children must be on required antibiotic for at least one full business day and showing no signs of watery, white, or yellow discharge from the eyes. A doctor's note must accompany the child upon returning to childcare. 

 

RASH: 

 

Infants and children will be sent home immediately if the rash is accompained by a fever or behavior change in the child. The child will be excluded until a physician has determined the rash is not the symptom of a communicable disease. A doctor's note must accompany the child upon returning to childcare. 

 

ANTIBIOTIC: 

 

If your child is given antibiotics for ANY REASON, even including ear infections, they must be on the antibiotic for 24 hours before returning to the center.
